Gemma has been dancing since she was a young girl, studying a variety of dance styles and always achieving a high distinction in her dance exams. After completing her diploma, Gemma decided to undertake a degree in dance and went to Bristol University for 2 years, followed by a final year at Plymouth University, and graduated with a 2:1 in 2012.
During her time as a student, Gemma found a love for contemporary, ballet and street dance, and came to study dance at a more advanced level with Ballaré from 2010. She quickly progressed to assisting with classes due to her university training and years of experience, and then to teaching her own classes.
Gemma has performed in many live shows as well as being involved in dance for film and production. She played the lead role in a Musical Film for a University project named Metanioa, was a soloist in a music video called Bleed me a river and has performed in many local productions including Cinderella and Fame.
Since beginning her teaching career with Ballare, Gemma has also had the opportunity to choreograph many musical theatre shows including Bugsy Malone, 13, Sister Act, Jesus Christ Superstar and Seusical the Musical, for a company in Liskeard. She was able to showcase some of her choreographed work in Exim’s Traverse Youth Platform as well as Cornwall’s Mid Summers Dance run by Lois Taylor. As well as teaching for Ballare, Gemma also delivers the BTEC dance course at Colours academy in Ivybridge as well as other subject and is one of the lead choreographers for the Early Energy Centres youth projects.
